Gibson Custom introduces Johnny A. Signature guitar

July 24, 2003... Nashville, Tennessee... Gibson's Custom, Art & Historic division has created an innovative new hollowbody guitar in collaboration with the Boston-based virtuoso Johnny A. The new Gibson Johnny A. Signature model has a highly individual, double-cutaway body style along with a healthy dose of vintage vibe.

"The Custom Shop team worked extremely hard in trying to help me realize my dream for the perfect guitar - an instrument that would celebrate 'The Golden Years' of Gibson's best tone, playability and styling coupled with features for today's demanding guitarists," says Johnny A. "I truly believe we've created the "modern classic"."

Although the figured maple top and outer back of the guitar are contoured, the interior back is flat. As a result, the completely hollow body of the guitar resonates more like a flattop than a traditional archtop or semi-hollowbody instrument. "This guitar is a cannon acoustically and, plugged in, it has a really sweet natural compression," says A.Other appointments of the Johnny A. Signature guitar include custom-designed mother-of-pearl inlays on the ebony fingerboard and headstock, an engraved "Johnny A." truss rod cover, and gold hardware. The Johnny A. model will be available with either a Bigsby vibrola or traditional stopbar tailpiece and comes in a new finish, Sunset Glow.

Johnny A. played with J. Geils frontman Peter Wolf for six years, as well as artists including Bobby Whitlock and Mingo Lewis. His instrumental guitar project, >sometime tuesday morning< was released in 1999 on Aglaophone records and received critical acclaim. It has since been re-released on Steve Vai's Favored Nations label . His new CD will be released on FN in early '04 featuring his signature guitar. Gibson is known worldwide for producing classic models in every major style of fretted instrument, including acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins and banjos. Gibson's digital guitar, introduced in 2002, represents the biggest advance in electric guitar design in over 70 years. MR machen es einem nicht leicht. Mit der just veröffentlichten Mini EP konnte man sie noch eher in der melodischen HC Ecke einordnen, auf der full length gehen sie eher in Richtung Get Up Kids, Taking Back Sunday etc.... Ein von Joe Barresi (Hole, Queens Of The Stone Age, Skunk Anansie, Melvins and Weezer) superproduziertes Album mit einer Menge "emotional" Punkrock Hits. Auf Tour mit den Ataris steht die Band für Interviews zur Verfügung. Leider sind die Gästelistenplätze limitiert.

DAS ERSTE HIP HOP SIGNING auf Epitaph. Um jetzt Diskussionen vorzubeugen warum Epitaph, das Punk Rock Label schlechthin, jetzt auch Hip Hop Artists signt, hier eine kurze aber gute Erklärung aus der Info zum Album: Many may wonder why an established Punk label would put out a Hip Hop record or possibly why a recognizable indie Hip Hop label and group would choose Epitaph to license a record to? Well, there has been a resurgence of the independent Hip Hop scene burrowing underground for sometime now, creating a movement most notably represented by Atmosphere as well as like-minded artists including Living Legends, Sage Francis, EL-P, Aceyalone, J-Live, Aesop Rock and others that have established an underground phenomenon rooted in the same values and ethics that Punk Rock is, at it's best, known for. Besides the similarities in philosophy this is all music and a wise man once said, "music, food and love are all universal and as long as it's good, people will listen, eat and f_ _ _"! Strummer Strolls Down One Last "Street"

More information has come to light about Joe Strummer's final studio album. As previously reported, "Streetcore" is due Oct. 7 from Hellcat/Epitaph [6th Sept in Europe, jr]. The set features nine originals and a cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song," produced by Rick Rubin. Several other cuts, including opener "Coma Girl" and "Get Down Moses," were a part of Strummer's live set lists before his sudden death last December. The track "Midnight Jam" is an instrumental. Writing on Strummer's official Web site earlier this year, his bandmates in the Mescaleros said, "the four of us just got in there, jammed, slowed the bass down and just dubbed around it, without changing anything."

As for "Redemption Song," Rubin tells Billboard.com the track was recorded in the midst of his sessions with Johnny Cash on the latter's album "American IV: The Man Comes Around." Strummer was in Los Angeles on vacation, but extended his trip in order to spend more time in the studio with Cash and Rubin.

Meanwhile, Strummer's site reports that "an exciting, official film documentary project is about to begin." The site is seeking "personal movie (film, video or digital) footage of Joe from any period of his career, particularly non-concert footage." Fans in possession of such footage are encouraged to e-mail documentary@strummersite.com with details.

Leider wird es nur sehr wenige Interviews geben.
