SOLOMON BURKE RECORDS NEW ALBUM FOR FAT POSSUM,
>DON'T GIVE UP ON ME< set for July Release.
NEW ALBUM FEATURES SONGS CONTRIBUTED BY VAN MORRISON, BOB DYLAN,
TOM WAITS, ELVIS COSTELLO, BRIAN WILSON, NICK LOWE AND MORE.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member, and the man Jerry Wexler calls
"the world's greatest soul singer," SOLOMON BURKE, has recorded a
brand new album for Fat Possum Records. Recorded live in the
studio in a raw, organic style by Joe Henry, the album
features new compositions by writers and artists including Bob
Dylan, Van Morrison, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Barry Mann &
Cynthia Weil, Nick Lowe, Brian Wilson, Joe Henry and Dan Penn,
all of whom credit Solomon with deeply influencing their work.
None of these songs have ever been released commercially before
now, and Solomon makes each of them his own with his dynamic
delivery.
The album, titled Don't Give Up On Me<, contains many highlights
including Mann & Weil's rousing "None Of Us Are Free," which
features a guest appearance by the Grammy-winning Blind Boys Of
Alabama. Another highlight is the beautiful title track written
by Dan Penn, one of the great Soul writers of all time and a
frequent collaborator of Solomon Burke in the '60s. Penn, whose
songs includes such staples as "Dark End of the Street" and "Do
Right Woman, Do Right Man" has penned another classic with "Don't
Give Up On Me." The song shows two masters at the peak of their
powers proving that the magic between them is stronger than ever.
SOLOMON BURKE is considered to be one of the true originators of
Soul music. In his impressive four decade career, he has written
and performed many classic hits including "Everybody Needs
Somebody To Love" and "Cry To Me" which were covered by the
Rolling Stones and "Down In The Valley" which was remade by Otis
Redding.
Known as Dr. Burke, The Bishop or The King Of Rock And Soul, this
man's voice is truly a force of nature with its breathtaking
range, startling detail and unrivaled passion. On Don't Give Up
On Me, Burke brings together elements of blues, gospel, jazz,
pop, country, and soul into an instantly identifiable and
infectiously gripping collage reminiscent of his finest '60s
sides.
Fat Possum Records is honored to be working with Solomon Burke,
one of the truly great voices in American music and proud to
present this remarkable album.
