ANTI haben ein neues aufregendes Signing zu vermelden:
VÖ. 29.03., MAGNUS is the creation of Tom Barman - heart and soul of Antwerp rockers dEUS - and CJ Bolland - DJ-producer and key figure in the international techno scene. The debut album of Magnus, The Body Gave You Everything, will be released on Epitaph's Anti label in the whole of Europe excluding Belgium and The Netherlands. The Body Gave You Everything is the encounter between two musicians with radically distinct musical backgrounds, who took it to a recording studio in search of a common sound. Says Tom Barman "I've been listening to techno, house, drum'n'bass intensely. Magnus is a synthesis of all those influences. (..) At the same time, we used a live drummer and somehow we couldn't prevent that rock-element sneaking in." The Body Gave You Everything was recorded over a period span of 3 years, with contributions from people such as Mauro Pawlowski (Evil Superstars), Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire), and Angelique Willkie (Zap Mama). During that period Tom Barman has worked as a writer and director for the movie 'Any way the Wind Blows', which will be shown in European movie houses this spring. One of the tracks on the album, 'Summer's Here', is the leading track in Barman's movie. The Body Gave You Everything is released with a bonus DVD featuring the videos for the tracks French Movies, Summer's Here and Jumpneedle. All three videos are directed by Tom Barman.

Für den 26.04 ist das neue Album von Jolie Holland (ANTI/SPV) geplant. Wer zufällig am Freitag den 19.03. in Texas bei der SxSW Musikmesse verweilt, sollte sich die junge Frau nicht entgehen lassen. Sie spielt um 20.00h im Antone's.

Das neueste Hellcat Signing, die dänischen HORRORPOPS (Album Hell Yeah, VÖ: 09.02.2004) werden THE OFFSPRING bei deren anstehender Europa Tour supporten. In Deutschland am 03.03. in Frankfurt und am 18.03 in Köln. Scheint so, als hätten die Herren von OFFSPING doch mehr Geschmack, als man ihnen zugetraut hätte.

Da werden aber einige Augen machen. Wer Pulley bisher eher in die B-Liga des melodischen Skatepunks gesteckt hat, darf sich jetzt eines besseren belehren lassen. Stilistisch in der Ecke Millencolin, Pennywise und Co. angesiedelt, ist MATTERS ein rundum perfektes Autobahn Album geworden. D.h. flotte Songs, die gute Laune verbreiten und zum Mitsingen animieren.

Nachdem Epitaph mit ATMOSPHERE bereits ein goldenes Händchen bewiesen haben, wenn es um wirklich guten HIP HOP geht (JaJa; Epitaph ist längst kein reines Skatepunk Label mehr), legen sie mit EYEDEA & ABILITIES ein weiteres Album nach, dass nicht auf den ausgelutschten US Breitwand Hip Hop Pfaden wandelt, sondern innovativen, frischen und intelligenten Hip Hop bietet, der auch ohne Arschwackeltitten Attitude auskommt.

Das Hepcat eine der besten Ska - Reggae - Dub Bands sind die es gibt, muss man wohl nicht diskutieren. OUT OF NOWHERE ist das erste Album der Band und wird jetzt über Epitaph/Hellcat wiederveröffentlicht. Das ist gut.

Johnny A ist ein Phänomen. In den USA hat er für sein Debut "Sometime Tuesday Morning" diverse Auszeichnungen bekommen, wurde von der Fachpresse gelobt, spielt vor ausverkauften Häusern und bekam von Gibson sogar eine eigene - nach ihm benannte - Signature-Gitarre. Nur Deutschland hält sich wieder einmal zurück. Wie alle FN Künstler bietet Johnny A technisch höchstes Niveau, hat aber den Vorteil, dass seine - ausnahmslos instrumentalen - Stücke auch vom Songwriting her auf sehr hohem Niveau sind. Also kein Gitarrengefrickel, sondern richtige Songs. Ein Künstler, den es zu entdecken gilt.

Einen Release wie die DILLINGERS hätte man wohl auf FN nicht erwartet, entgegen den technisch hochversierten Musikern, die bisher und weiterhin über FN präsent waren und sind, gibt es auf INSTRO MANIA astreinen, instrumentalen Surf meets Punk meets Country meets Soundtrack Sound zu hören. Das Info verrät folgendes:"A big part of our concept is 60's influenced. The impact of the music in those movies I think is every bit as important as the imagery. Guys like Henry Mancini, John Barry and Ennio Morricone are just as influential in the scheme of 60's music as The Beatles or Brian Wilson." Upon listening you'll find The Dillengers' music stylings to be more akin to what it might have sounded like had Ennio Morricone fronted the Circle Jerks with the curse of Link Wray hanging over their heads than to that of the more "traditional" style surf/instrumental groups of the past.

Mit der Veröffentlichung von "Greetings From Texas" und "Greetings From Tennessee" startet "...and more bears records" das schon ungeduldig erwartete Projekt zum Thema "Regionale Country Music". Jede CD dieser Serie wird eine stattliche Zahl von Liedern enthalten, in denen sich alles um einen konkreten US-Bundesstaat dreht. Genauer gesagt: In gewohnter "...and-more-bears"-Machart wird es eine Mischung aus bekannten Songs (wie etwa Deep In The Heart Of Texas und Tennessee Waltz) und eher obskuren Titeln aus den Katalogen diverser Plattenfirmen geben. Jede CD wird ferner einen ebenso launigen wie informativen Begleittext des Musikgeschichtlers Hank Davis enthalten. Die ausgewählten Songs stammen aus den 40er bis 70er Jahren; das Gros wird jedoch ursprüngliche, traditionelle und klassische Country Music repräsentieren. Keine Sorge: Es geht dabei einzig und allein um den Spaß an der Freude! Keine der Kopplungen wird etwas von einem oberlehrerhaften Angebot angestaubter Steinzeitware haben. Der norwegische Künstler St. Thomas hat bisher 2 Alben über City Slang veröffentlicht. In Skandinavien konnte er mit dem Song "Cornerman" einen großartgen Singleerfolg verbuchen. LET'S GROW TOGETHER ist ein wirklich hervorragendes, sehr eigenes Indie Album. Verschroben, verspielt, abwechslungsreich, hitlastig und wie alles aus dem Hause Trocadero sehr gehaltvoll.

Backed only by subdued upright bassist Ryan Feves and her own insistently chipping guitar, Mandell made for a distinctly austere - and pleasant - contrast with Television's dense thickets of guitar. She proudly wore her bohemian-punk influences on her sleeve, or rather on her white X T-shirt, leering conspiratorially with each railroad-spike-certain downstroke on "Pauline," invoking a sense of luridly menacing Exene/John Doe atmosphere. She slowed things down on the languid idyll "Dutch Harbor" and a sweetly respectful, spare interpretation of Merle Haggard's "I've Got a Tender Heart," her breathy cooing barely rippling the glassy stillness before Television's impending electric storm.

Stockholm based Last Days of April has been around for more than eight years now and if you compare the latest album, "If You Lose It" (due for release all over Europe on February 23:rd, Sweden February 25:th) to their first couple of records there is no way of telling it's even the same band. At least not at a first listen. But when you listen to it more, it all starts to make sense. The evolvement during the last few years is astounding! It's like the music has continuously evolved in the direction of the sound they have now achieved. It's what the music has reached for; like a plant turning its leaves in the direction where the light is coming from.

The Low Frequency in Stereo can maybe be put under a sort of lo-fidelity/post-rock category. Their songs are most often laid-back and instrumental, with groovy drums, heavy organic bass and a knife-edging guitar. This is all spiced up with samples and keyboard. The Low Frequency in Stereo is also using vocal on some songs, which can be heard on the track "Harvest" on the EP. The band have also got very good live reviews.

Es ist ungefähr so, als wenn man von einer langen reise nach hause kommt. alles ist ein wenig anders als vorher. elf jahre sind soulmate schon dabei. eigentlich immer auf dem sprung. verschiedene leute, verschiedene szenen. konstanten gab es wenige, die dafür aber umso ausgeprägter. einen sänger zum beispiel, der für den sound von soulmate steht, wie die drei streifen für adidas. darüber hinaus das gespür für songs, die verdammt noch mal keine eintagsfliegen sind - sondern in deinem kopf bleiben.und bleiben.und bleiben.
