Starkult goes Elektro

Hallo Musikfreunde,
liebe Medienpartner,

Le Maquis, one of the most important independent French electronic labels, struck license deals at the last Popkomm in almost 15 countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Poland, Japan. Directed by Philippe-Pierre Adolphe, and now distributed in France by Naive, Le Maquis releases a dozen albums per years and owns a publishing catalogue of more than 30 references on CD and Vinyls, embracing all electronic influences: from techno to house, lounge, electro pop, easy listening, nu-jazz and even hip hop. The label is also known for associating to its productions the greatest artists from the French and foreign scene through compilations, featurings, or remixes (Alex Gopher, Philippe Zdar, Dee Nasty, Pacman, but also DJ Q, DJ Food, Thievery Corporation, Beansfield, Blue Six, Couchpotatoes...). Also a booking agency, managed by Manu Casana, other famous artists have joined them to develop their international career like David Chong, Cyril K. Czerkinsky, Jean-Marie K., Cosmophonic, Klement Julienne, Enzo Cicala. Among several releases, Le Maquis has produced the compilation “Lounge Story“ that presents 15 essential tunes for the Lounge Culture, spanning 40 years, with 5 bonus tracks, including Pink Matrini, Helen Merrill, Pero Umiliani (Karminsky´s remix), Balanco, Ya Basta, Combustible Edison, Czerkinsky, Klement Julienno. Released in France last June, „Lounge Story“ has sold around 7.000 copies, and is now due out in Europe, Canada and Japan. The albums of Le Maquis´ main artists, the electro pop band Nova Nova, and of their new signing, the French artist Mederic are to be released in 2002.

Couch Potatoes (nominated best electronic Canadian group of the year 2000), Enzo Cicala (Jazzy Deep House, came out with a single in Germany) and Love Dogs (ex-Oberkampf converted to House).

Artist : Couch Potatoes
Titel : cool ride
VÖ : 14.01.2001
Living on the electronic Canadian scene since 1997, the Couch Potatoes were nominated by the press, best electronic Canadian group in the year 2000.
They now have produced "COOL RIDE", worthy of one year's work in the studio hidden from civilization and sound. The 12 titles are shared by a pop-electro radiophonique sound and a funk electronic sound that can be appreciated by all electronic music fans.

The Couch Potatoes where first noticed by the last producer of B52's. The two founders of the group, Jean-Michel, who started with classical music and Nick B, known as the Laurent Garnier of Canada combined their music perfectly. On stage, several musicians and singers (including the singer from the famous group Bran Van 3000, Stephan Moraille with his well known title,"Drinking in L.A.) joined the group to create an explosive mix.

Artist : Various Artists
CD Titel : Morning Beats - Paris
VÖ : 14.01.2002
Morning Beats was created by the nighttime pioneers, in the spirit to start a new day after a night of dancing. (Le Palace, Le Boy, L’Anfer, Les Folies Pigalle, Le Queen, Le Rex…). Techno and House have slowly developed this ritual to ravers and night clubbers. The privileged starters have been replaced by an audience that is more open (students, passionate of electronic music, party goers of all kinds…).

Part of a program for weekend nights, Morning Beats has given birth to a style of music on this compilation. A fine selection of exclusive hits by Jean-Marie K, pioneer of the French electronic scene, organizer of the parties, « Happy House » since 1989 with Laurent Garnier and artistic director of the label Fairway Records, with whom he produces many compilations, including « After Trance » (5 volumes) which are very successful. « Morning Beats » was created from its weekly show on Radio FG « After FG », which for one year has electronically accompanied from 6 to 8 in the morning, the French partiers of hot dance floors. It brings together a wide range of artist from the electronic French scene, such as : Guillaume La Tortue, Cedric Azenkoth from the famous duo Dax Rider, Jean Jerome (famous, animator of Radio FG) and also a collaborations of DJ Numkat (Trip Hop, Jazzy Vibes compilation) and Wide Open Spaces (Lounge Story), as well as other surprises….This musical program is composed only of exclusive titles, some have been realized just for this project

Artist : Czerkinsky
CD Titel : Club
VÖ : 18.02.2002
We already knew Czerkinsky, founder of the legendary group, Mikado, he then created „CZERKINSKY", ("Natacha", Les Sacs en Plastic, etc…). First solo album very much appreciated by specialized journalist and others. Czerkinsky now proposes, "CLUB", an album purely instrumental, which resembles an imaginary voyage across a very personnel and totally subjective reconstitution of the history of music (classical, Folkloric Electronic, Pop Rock, Movie, Jazz, Trip-Hop, Lounge, and everything else that you want….).
Relax and let you be brought into this fantastic trip where each track is major detailed state map from a particular territory, where your conscience and emotions meet. Music that makes you think, dance, talk, dream, laugh or cry, music to live and even die for. In conclusion the "CLUB", yes, but the ultimate and definitive "CLUB".

Artist : Various Artists
CD Titel : Lounge Story
VÖ : 18.02.2002
Lounge story has the ambition to retrace the history of lounge music by making us discover or rediscover the rare pearl of the Italian Piero Umiliani and his famous « Mahna Mahna » remixed by the English DJ Karminsky, Helen Merril and her retake of « I’ve got you under my skin » by Cole Porter and by passing through Pink Martini or Czerkinsky the creator of the French Easy-listening.
Lounge Story also makes us appreciate new titles thanks to the new French Lounge Scene: Stereo Action Limited with « Lovelight » (music from the commercial Carte Premier), Klement Julienne, K,n R, Enzo Cicala, the amazing Mr. Untel… Also subtle titles that invite the audience towards sonic and fantasy territories of the Lounge culture. A voyage across time, but also across area’s where Lounge music is present (Milan, New York, London, Frankfort and now Paris) born in the 1960’s and brought up to today’s taste…
Lounge Story contains originality, emotion, and also humor, across 15 titles selected by NUMKAT, recognized as one of the experts of the French Lounge culture and author of a numerous compilations including the famous « Trip Hop Sampler » (Fairway) and « Jazzy Vibes » (Karamel). Lounge Story is not a compilation, but a true musical program for a cool, chic and chill audience. The ideal disc to start or finish an evening…. The cover was realized by Floc’h, the most lounge of French illustrators, where his work includes pages in the New Yorker and the unforgettable posters of films ("Harry dans tous ses etats", "La buche" and "On connaît la chanson…)
